Colombia is officially recognised as a producer of fine-flavour cocoa, and its growing regions cover everything from Caribbean lowlands to Andean valleys.
Cacao has also become part of the country's peace story: in several former conflict regions it has been promoted as a legal crop to replace coca. For chocolate lovers, the result is a steadily growing list of Colombian farms and cooperatives on single-origin labels, generally producing balanced, fruity and nutty chocolate.
