Guatemala lies in the Maya heartland, and cacao has been grown and drunk there for thousands of years. Ceremonial cacao drinks are still part of life in some communities.

Modern Guatemalan chocolate comes from smallholder farms in the lowlands and the Verapaz highlands, and tends to be balanced and earthy with fruit and nut notes. It is a small origin, but one with more history than almost any other.
